Folk From The Fold present The Man Who Planted Trees – a story for our time, told in words and song.
A much-loved spin-off from the ever-popular Fold Theatre, this smaller ensemble was formed after the pandemic by four familiar faces: Eileen and Eric Payne, Julia Davies, and Jim Preston. Together they have created a moving and memorable new show that combines storytelling, music, and harmony singing.
At its heart lies Jean Giono’s wonderful and poignant tale of Elzéard Bouffier, an inspirational French shepherd who quietly dedicates his life to planting trees. The story draws a powerful contrast between those who nurture the earth and those who make war, while celebrating all that is best in humanity’s relationship with nature and one another.
With beautifully interwoven songs enhancing the narrative, The Man Who Planted Trees is uplifting, heartwarming, and deeply relevant for today. Audiences across the festival circuit have already been spellbound by this enchanting performance – a highlight not to be missed.
